History and Education

Dr. Kenshock was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  His family lived in Baldwin where he attended Catholic grade school and later Baldwin High School.  His interest in eye care was influenced early on by his father, who was an optician, for over 40 years.  Dr. Kenshock attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated in 1996 with a Chemistry degree.  He later attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) in Philadelphia, PA where he obtained another Bachelor of Science, and finally his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2000.

While at PCO, Dr. Kenshock received numerous awards and clinical honors.  Among those accolades are Honors for Ocular Disease Management, Honors for practicing in a hospital setting, and Honors in Primary Eye Care and Pediatrics.  He received several academic scholarships while at school including the Madelyn and Leonard Academic Scholarship, The Conforma Contact Lens Award of Excellence Scholarship, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Scholarship.  In addition, Dr. Kenshock was admitted to the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society prior to graduation.

Clinical Experience:

Dr. Kenshock completed four distinct clinical internships prior to moving to North Carolina.  The first was at the Martinelli Eye Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA where he obtained valuable clinical experience with family eye care including eye examinations for glasses and contact lenses.  He also participated in the management of glaucoma patients, cataract post-op care, and refractive surgery evaluations.  His second internship was also in Pittsburgh at Associates in Ophthalmology.  Here he observed LASIK eye surgery, glaucoma, cataract, and retinal specialists.  On an average day, he would encounter 50 patients with eye problems related to diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.  This was a unique and rewarding clinical rotation.  The third rotation was at the Lebanon VA Hospital in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.  This rotation enabled Dr. Kenshock to participate in the eye care of our nation’s veterans.  This rotation not only served to provide eye care experience, but reminded him of the sacrifice that the men and women in the armed forces make in their lives in order to provide us with our continued freedom.  The internships commenced with one additional rotation in Philadelphia at JFK Memorial Hospital and in the Pediatric Department at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  The Pediatric rotation provided eye exam experience for children of all ages.

Additional Work Experience:

Upon moving to North Carolinain September of 2000, Dr. Kenshock worked at a Refractive Surgery Center in Chapel Hill and in Private practice focusing on Family Eye Care and Ocular Disease.  He joined Cape Fear Eye Associates in July of 2002 and has been working in the Fayetteville and Sanford locations exclusively since that time.  He continues to maintain professional memberships in the American Optometric Association, North Carolina Optometric Association, and the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association.  He donates several eye examinations weekly to the Sanford Helping Hands Clinic and conducts eye evaluations for active members of the US Military prior to retirement.

Clinical Interests:

Dr. Kenshock enjoys providing eye examinations to patients of all ages including the prescribing of glasses and contact lenses.  Dr. Kenshock has experience with the latest gas permeable contact lens types and materials.  In addition, he fits all types of the most current soft contact lenses including toric, bifocal, multifocal, and color contacts.  Other interests include the management of Dry Eye Syndrome with prescription Eye Drops and Punctal Plugs.  He continues to manage a large base of glaucoma patients as well as patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.  He participates in the post-operative management of refractive, cataract, and glaucoma surgery.   New patients are welcomed and appreciated.
