Surgical Services

At Cape Fear Eye Associates staying current on techniques and technologies is a priority. From the time you enter our practice, you will see we are not an ordinary eye care practice. We use the latest and technically accurate equipment and techniques to ensure the highest quality outcomes for your eye care.

iLASIK & PRK

LASIK is a surgical procedure that uses a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. In LASIK, a thin flap in the cornea is created using a femtosecond laser. The surgeon folds back the flap, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using an excimer laser.

Laser Cataract Surgery

Most cataracts develop slowly over the course of years. The main symptom is blurry vision. Having cataracts can be like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window.

When a cataract interferes with someone's usual activities, the cloudy lens can be replaced with a clear, artificial lens. This is generally a safe, outpatient procedure.

Glaucoma Treatment

Traditionally surgery has been performed to create a new drainage channel by effectively by-passing the natural outflow pathways. Such surgery is generally used to treat the more aggressive or advanced stages of glaucoma.

Corneal Cross-Linking

Corneal Cross-linking is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that combines the use of UVA light and riboflavin eye drops to add stiffness to corneas which have been weakened by disease or refractive surgery.

Corneal Transplant Surgery

A Corneal Transplant may be necessary if your cornea is damaged due to injury or disease.

A successful Corneal Transplant requires care and attention on the part of both patient and physician. However, no other surgery has so much to offer when the cornea is deeply scarred or afflicted with disease.

Intacs Corneal Implants

Intacs® Corneal Implants are intended for the reduction or elimination of myopia and astigmatism in  patients with keratoconus who are no longer able to achieve adequate vision with their contact lenses or spectacles, so that their functional vision may be restored and the need for a cornea transplant procedure may potentially be deferred.

Eyelid Procedures

Blepharoplasty — more commonly called eyelid surgery or “lid lift” — is designed to correct the appearance of droopy upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

Retina

Screening and treatment for Diabetic Eye Diseases, including retinopathy. If you have diabetes, you may be vulnerable to a number of eye disorders, including cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, which can lead to blindness if untreated. However, these eye conditions can usually be treated effectively if detected early.
