TRULIGN Toric Intraocular Lens for Improved Quality of Vision After Cataract Surgery
Trulign is a new intraocular lens that can correct for pre-existing astigmatism (blurred vision) and provide a broader range of vision for activities such as working on a computer or seeing instruments on your car. Created specifically for implantation after cataract removal, the TRULIGN Toric intraocular lens (IOL) was approved by the FDA in May of 2013.
The TRULIGN Toric lens is designed for seniors with active lifestyles. Unlike a standard cataract replacement lens, the TRULIGN Toric lens allows the eye to focus and maintain clarity over a broad range of vision, while correcting for the patient’s astigmatism. The lens also delivers superior clarity of vision, even in low-light or nighttime conditions.
“The TRULIGN Toric lens both reduces the negative impact of pre-existing astigmatism on postoperative vision and also imparts excellent distance and intermediate vision and functional near vision, all through a single surgical procedure. The result is a reduced need for patients to wear glasses for certain activities following cataract surgery.
Cape Fear Eye Associates offers a full range of surgical vision correction procedures and works closely with each patient to determine the option that might be best for them. Every patient is also informed about what to expect before, during and after a surgical procedure.
By offering the TRULIGN Toric lens, we have increased the choices that our cataract patients can consider that allow them to not only replace their clouded lens, but significantly enhance their overall vision.
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens in the eye. It is the leading cause of blindness in the world. According to the National Eye Institute, cataract surgery is one of the safest, most common and effective surgical procedures. Worldwide, over 20 million cataract surgeries are performed annually. Cataract surgery is a simple procedure during which the natural lens in the patient’s eye is surgically replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). The TRULIGN Toric is an intraocular lens designed to not only replace the patient’s clouded lens but also to provide them with improved visual acuity.

The Acrysof Toric lens is specifically designed to address those who have a significant amount of astigmatism. In years past, cataract surgery removed the cataract, but a patient with high astigmatism still required glasses for near and distant vision. The design of the Acrysof Toric lens makes it possible to reduce or eliminate astigmatism and significantly improve uncorrected distance vision. There is an additional cost for this lens implant. Again, we strive to make the Acrysof Toric lens affordable for our patients by offering payment options here in our office.
