LASIK, CK, and PRK
If you've made the decision to have LASIK, or are considering refractive vision correction surgery, Cape Fear Eye Associates is the perfect place to begin. We offer a full range of refractive surgery options, including CK, PRK, and LASIK, to residents in the Chapel Hill, Sanford, and Fayetteville, North Carolina areas. In addition, our practice uses wavefront laser eye surgery technology, giving our patients access to the most advanced laser vision correction technique available.
Our LASIK-trained and certified ophthalmologists have extensive experience performing LASIK surgery. One of the primary researchers in the first FDA study to approve commercial LASIK, ophthalmologist S. Scott Stapleton has been at the forefront of LASIK technology for nearly two decades. His colleague Dr. J. Wayne Riggins has been successfully performing LASIK since 1996. Dr. Sheel Patel has extensive experience performing custom LASIK with microkeratomes as well as IntraLase®. Dr. Miles Whitaker has been performing PRK and PTK for many years.
Featuring Cataract Lens Replacements with ReSTOR® and ReZoom™
If cataracts are beginning to affect your daily life, we can replace your clouded natural lenses with clear intraocular lenses through cataract surgery. At Cape Fear Eye Associates in Sanford and Fayetteville, we offer the breakthrough lenses ReSTOR® and ReZoom™ to return clarity to your eyesight and improve the quality of your life.
ReSTOR® and ReZoom™ are multifocal intraocular lenses that not only replace your clouded lenses but also enable you to see things clearly up close, at mid-range, and far away, significantly reducing or eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses. Dr. S. Scott Stapleton, Dr. Miles W. Whitaker, Dr. J. Wayne Riggins, and Dr. Sheel Patel have been collectively performing successful cataract surgery for more than two decades.
Help Us to Help You See Better
Having your medical history, current lens prescription, and insurance information helps us to provide you with the best possible eye care. In preparation for your first visit to one of our Fayetteville or Sanford eye centers, we ask that you read our detailed first-visit checklist in order to help us to streamline your check-in process. The patient information, consent, and medication forms as well as the medical history questionnaire are available for you to download, print, and fill out.
Research Indicates Good Nutrition May Inhibit Vision Loss
Studies show that vegetables rich in carotenoids — dark, leafy green vegetables, including raw spinach, kale, and collard greens—significantly reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, the eye disorder that leads to vision loss in older people. When used in combination, high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and zinc are also linked to reduced risk. Cape Fear Eye Associates carries a special formulation of these vitamins and minerals, MacularProtect Complete®, which has been shown in large studies to limit the progression of moderate to severe macular degeneration. In addition to good nutrition, treatment with Avastin®, available at both our Sanford and Fayetteville locations, may limit the damage associated with advanced macular degeneration.
